Here are a few of the things that made 2005 special for me.
- In January I took a trip to Ireland and England where I spoke at a conference and visited Penny Lane in Liverpool.
- Bethany and I lead worship for Calvin’s Re-Gathering celebration in the Calvin Fieldhouse.
- Bethany’s graduated from Calvin College. George W. Bush was the speaker.
- Bryan and his partner win the state high school tennis tournament at 3rd doubles. He was then named tennis player of the year by the Holland Sentinel.
- Meredith and Bryan graduated from High School and started as freshmen at Calvin College.
- I became chair of the Calvin Education Department.
- Laura, Lynnae and I moved Bethany to Athens, GA where she is a grad student.
- Laura and I wrote more together than we ever have including a couple of curriculum units for Faith Alive and the Calvin Institute for Christian Worship. We also published The Very Best Gift of All, our 6th published Christmas play for kids.
- I was a keynote speaker for the Christian Educators Association annual conference.
- In October, Meredith played viola with Jars of Clay on three songs when they performed at Calvin.
- I saw U2 at the United Center in Chicago.
- Lynnae entered high school and was a winged monkey in The Wizard of Oz and a royal wife in The King and I.
- Janet Andersen, Hope College professor and co-author with me on two books (Projects for Precalculus and Precalculus: A Study of Functions and their Applications) died in a car accident on Thanksgiving.
- The Lazy Blue Tunas played multiple times over the course of the year including a packed house at the One Trick Pony in December.
